These days of post-election provide a challenge to Christian communities. There are those who are happy, and there are those who are worried, and grieving. The challenge is to create a space for compassion to hold both together.
My hope and prayer this St. Patrick’s Day is that the day is coming when, like the Irish, we will no longer see our neighbors of different cultures and colors as our enemies – as a plague upon our nation. I pray the day is coming when we might celebrate together, just as all peoples celebrate St. Patrick’s Day together.
Freedom. This word is often understood as being unconstrained, as in: “I can do what I want.” For Christians, freedom means something different.
Grace. If I could summarize the Christian faith in one word it would be Grace. Grace means getting what you don’t deserve, in a good way. It means being loved even when you feel unlovable; being forgiven when you are still steeped in guilt; being healed when you are incapable of healing yourself.
