Volunteer In Our Community

God has given special gifts to each person!  Peace is a community where everyone is involved in some way.  We encourage you to get involved as your faith grows the more you put it into practice. Be sure to check back and keep an eye on our social media and weekly news blast for the latest opportunities! There are countless ways to serve the church and community. Below are just a few of our immediate opportunities to serve.

Creating Community through Service

Community Volunteer Opportunities

Belvedere Food Bag Ministry

The Belvedere Food Bag Ministry supports Belvedere Elementary School students and family members with weekend and summer lunches. As a Title I school, Belvedere serves a large percent of low-income families. Many students are eligible for free school lunches. However, when at home, students do not receive this state funded meal. Thus, Peace packs food bags for weekends, school holidays, and the summer months, ensuring that local youth are receiving nutritional meals when not at school.

Property Ministry

Peace's building and grounds are used for ministry. Our building hosts Global Refugee's temporary office for resettling Afghan Evacuees, as well as other community groups such as REACT DC. Our church grounds serve the neighborhood with community gardens, a basketball hoop, and pleasant walking areas.

Volunteers keep our property maintained inside and out. If you have a few hours to volunteer either on a one-time or on-going basis, please consider volunteering with the Property Ministry. Contact the Office.

Neighbor to Neighbor

Come be part of the Neighbor to Neighbor community! This ministry and work is only possible through the care and dedication of volunteers, including as English conversation practice partners, transportation helpers, and in-person tutors for our Saturday morning programming. Background checks and orientation are required for all volunteers over the age of 18. Youth are welcome to volunteer!

Resettling Refugees

Peace has long been involved in the works of welcome and support of new neighbors. For the past several years, Global Refugee, and now also REACT DC, have set up offices to assist newly arrived Afghan neighbors settle into life in the U.S. If you are interested in finding out how to sponsor a newly arriving family, one resource to check out is Lutheran Social Services Good Neighbor Program.
