Creating Welcoming Communities
Immigrant & Refugee Services
In the fall of 2021, Peace opened its doors to host a new office for LIRS (now Global Refugee) in partnership with our local resettlement partner Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area. The refugee resettlement office at Peace was opened in response to the 2021 evacuation of Afghan Allies following the withdrawal of United States military forces. This office remains at work today but now under the umbrella of Global Refuge, formerly Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services. Additionally, Peace Lutheran now hosts an office for REACT DC, assisting immigrants and refugees with legal services, among other things.
The people of Peace grieve with those who have lived through the uncertainty and violence of war, fled Afghanistan, and seen your people undergo such peril. Throughout our history, Peace has been a place of refuge and our members have always had a passion for this ministry. We are honored to host these offices and aid in welcoming strangers both near and far. When we are given the honor of welcoming others, we are given the honor of welcoming our very Lord. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.
