All week, I’ve been thinking of the phrase “the limits of our imagination are not the limits of God’s power,” from Pastor Santos’s sermon last week. It reminds me of a favorite scripture “God…can do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine.” (Ephesians 3:20). What an incredible reality!
I’ve also been thinking of the various ways that life can be divided into before and after. Before the pandemic, we did things a certain way. Now that we may be moving into after, a whole new world of possibilities opens up. How do we live now? In the after? And how will it be different from before?
When the resurrected Jesus appeared to his disciples, it seems they had gone back to living life like before they knew Jesus at all. They were back fishing, unsuccessfully. Jesus called them into a new way of living, life “after” the resurrection. In that life, forgiveness and service are markers of God’s community.
Christians are sometimes called “an Easter people.” That means we are always in the after. Even when we don’t live like it, and even when the world still seems to “groan in pain,” the resurrected Jesus has changed everything.
