Recognizing enoughness is a radical act in an economy that is always urging us to consume more. Most of us make decisions about what to buy or not to buy based on our budget. Christ followers base this decision on the One who cautioned us repeatedly about money and possessions. “The extra coat in your closet belongs to the poor” was a mantra used by the early Christians to shape our lives. When is enough – enough? Income distribution in this land would have looked terribly shocking to our early Christian ancestors perhaps beyond understanding. In a final encouragement Bishop Ortiz has asked us to ’pray, fast and give alms’ to oppose those forces at work in the cosmos that rip apart God’s dream that all may have enough , that fairness and concern for our neighbor be our dream as well.
