Christ followers are to ‘speak truth to power’ as Christ did to both Herod and Pontius Pilate. Pilate mocked Jesus with sarcasm : “What is truth?” What truth are Christ followers to name in our lives as Americans today? Perhaps the truth that randomly enacted cruelty is still cruelty disguised as law. The truth that mass deportation isn’t about safety but about creating terror and uncertainty and heartbreak. The truth that cutting support programs rather than taxing billionaires doesn’t cut waste, it cuts lives. The truth that the Gospel is about this very real world or it is no Gospel at all. In the world you will have tribulation.
