Support Our Troops

Project Boomerang

Every Wednesday, a group called the Scrappy Ladies gathers to create greeting cards for “Project Boomerang” (others work from home). The mission began in July 2006 with an idea to create blank greeting cards for military chaplains to distribute to deployed troops and support personnel. Recipients could then add a personal message before sending the cards to their loved ones back home, thus the boomerang effect.

Since Project Boomerang’s inception, over 46,000 cards have been distributed to our troops and those in need at home and abroad. Currently, the group sends its cards to Fisher House locations associated with Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, Good News Prison Ministry, overseas where needed, and wherever the Holy Spirit guides them.

Cards are designed using ink stamps, paper punches, new and used cards, magazines, stickers and ribbons. Card stock is cut to fit donated envelopes. Postage and supply costs are defrayed with funding from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and donations from generous friends.

The Scrappy Ladies of Project Boomerang meet Wednesdays from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm in the Adult Education room at Peace Lutheran Church. Come to inspire or be inspired. Everyone is welcome!
