Words for the Week – January 24, 2019

Greetings.  This Sunday we have an all-church meeting and potluck following the 10:30 service.  Please bring a dish to share.  We’ll see a photo review of 2018, celebrate what we’ve done together for God, and vote on the budget for 2019.

If you are a furloughed worker who needs assistance, please reach out to the church.  You do not need to suffer alone.

Last week, I preached on the surprising, wonderful miracle of Jesus turning water into wine.  Through this miracle, Jesus helped people build relationships.  When people think there isn’t enough, the end result is often anger, hatred and division.  I connected my experiences at the US/Mexico border with the everyday miracle of finding God’s surprising abundance in a shared meal or a party.

Listen to the sermon here.

This week, we’ll read a scripture text about how we all belong to one another.  Wow, isn’t that amazing to think of?  In a culture that seems focused on tearing one another down and creating a sense of belonging only to those of your tribe, it is amazing to discover that God creates unity of purpose out of apparent differences.  We need each other.

See you in church,

Pastor Sarah
