Words for the Week – January 17, 2019

Greetings Peace people.  If you are affected by the shut-down and need help, please reach out to me or someone in the church.   At 9:15 am on Sunday, I will lead a discussion about how we can support people who are affected.

Last week, 21 people worshiped together at Peace. It was snowy, yes.  Still, we gathered around scripture and sacrament and sang prayerfully together.

I preached about what we do when we feel dis-spirited. The Spirit works in mysterious ways and sometimes it leads us into agitation, disturbing our comfort zones but always bringing us into renewed relationship with God.

Listen to the sermon here.

This week in the gospel, Jesus performs his first recorded miracle, turning water into wine at a wedding. This has always struck me as a strange first miracle.  On the surface, whether a wedding party has enough wine doesn’t seem like it should be high on the list of Jesus’ concerns.  This miracle has as much to do with the renewal of our religious life as it has to do with a good party…and the two are related! I’ll preach about the challenging witness of Martin Luther King Jr, the renewal of religious life, and the great news that everyone is invited to the party.

See you in church,

Pastor Sarah
