Words for the Week – August 23, 2018

Greetings church!  I’m still walking with a bounce in my step because of last Sunday’s joyful celebration of the ministry of House of Faith International, complete with the HOFI praise band.  There’s already talk of joining services again sometime soon.  A big thank you to our Creative Worship Leader Jim Nice, and to Kojo and Pastor Nana Opoku for making it happen.  Pastor Nana preached.

Listen to the sermon here.

Our gospel this Sunday is the end of John 6.  Jesus’ teaching has become difficult, requiring his followers to change their lives so radically, that many of them have turned away.  Jesus challenges his core disciples, asking if they too want to go away.  To this, Simon Peter responds “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”

Christ’s sacrifice and self-offering is indeed difficult, but it is also a way of grace and truth that can’t be found in anyone else.  We cling to Jesus, trusting that he really is the “Holy One of God.”  We welcome The Rev. Peter Bastien to the pulpit for the next two Sundays.

Be at Peace,
Pastor Sarah
